October 7

Happy Monday. “Hope is like the sun, which as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.” –Samuel Smiles

Looking around the neighborhood and my own yard, I see things completely “spent” after the heat of summer.

My beautiful geraniums, with their red blossoms, cheered me for weeks. But they have given their all, nothing left.

Have we not all been there? In the “heat” of the day we are withered with nothing left to give?

Many reasons that this happens, at least for me.

It might be just a dry spell when for whatever reason, the things that usually refresh me, don’t!

Some things I have loved have faded, withered. The flowers of summer are gone.

But as I look forward to the season of color and pots of bright chrysanthemums which will grace my yard, I gain a new perspective.medium_6763527877

When we feel as “spent” as a dying flower, it’s good to make an attitude adjustment, giving a healthy outlook.

We can flee to the hope set before us which hope is an anchor for the soul. Hebrews 6:19

People today are desperate for that anchor—hope. Constantly we are barraged with bad news. Life seems bland with no purpose, no prospect for a brighter day.

Joni Ereackson Tada, a quadriplegic for forty-five years, says she thrives on hope.

“The world may trouble me and my body be in pain but I take heart, Jesus is the source of my hope.’

He is our source also—today!

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of God shall stand for ever.” Isaiah 40:8

  2. Yes, indeed Jesus is our hope! and here in Long Beach we as a church are embracing that hope through an unexpected trial the Lord has chosen for us.
Thank u for choosing this topic today- and though times can be dim- God is still on the throne and our hope lies in His Sovereign will!
Have a joyful week Mrs. Hyles:)

  3. I saw some yellow roses blooming yesterday when we were on our way home from church. They were beautiful & they reminded me of you. Thank you for your encouragement through your post.

  4. Thanks dear friend, I needed that today! We are so blessed to have a God that cares for our EVERY need yet as we go through tough times, we forget. Someone sweetly gave me a huge pot of yellow chrysanthemums on Saturday and that is a blessing. Goes with your post. I love you. Barb Nelson
