Happy Monday. What do you see outside your window today?
It’s a dull time of year, holidays over, decorations down, and it’s “blah.”
The trees have shed their leaves and the grass looks dead.
The local news and national news are warning us of flu, the swine flu to be exact.
Shall we hibernate?
My annual visit to my ophthalmologist was last week. I don’t like the dilation of my eyes, though it’s a necessary part of an exam.
When I left the office, the light hit me in the face. The world took on a brilliance I could hardly bear.
I wonder if our spiritual eyes need a dilation, to see light that may have dimmed.
A chorus we sing in church says:
“Open our eyes, Lord,
We want to see Jesus,
To reach out and touch him
And say that we love him.
Open our ears, Lord,
And help us to listen.
Open our eyes, Lord,
We want to see Jesus.”
Maybe in these first days of January it would be a good time to get a fresh glimpse of God’s goodness and care.
David said in Psalms 27:13, “I had fainted,unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
I saw this played out this week. As a clerk was checking me out with a purchase, I asked, “How are you?” She told me! She had had a lengthy illness, lost her mother in death, car broke down, etc. Her shoulders slumped, she was fainting (not literally).
I quickly said, “But God loves you!” I saw her straighten her shoulders and her face brightened. She saw the goodness of God.
Of course, we don’t have to go far to see faces of hurting ones who need God’s goodness shown through us. It surely heals the days of dullness.
A quote from his book I Could Sing of Your Love Forever by Lindsey Terry says, “May we continually ‘see’ through God’s word what the will of the Lord is for our lives.”
Part of that will would be that we “see” the world through His eyes.

Thanks for sharing your heart with us every Monday! I told my husband last week that I wished it was, “Everyday with Beverly,” instead of only “Mondays with Beverly.” 🙂 Your words are such a blessing and encouragement to me! My prayer is that God will make me sensitive to those that cross my path daily, and also give them the good news that God loves them.

Thank you so much for these thoughts. After the accident in 2003 where I lost my left leg, the verses Psalm 27:13 and 14 were such a comfort to me. In the two months that I was in the trauma centre, I daily clung to the Psalms, but especially those two verses. I love you and am very thankful for your Monday emails.

Thank you for reminding me. The Lord gave me that verse on Feb. 9, 2003 when my husband went to be with HIM and I need to remember all of the good things HE has done for me. I am thankful for your friendship, dear friend!

Oh boy! Did I ever need that lesson today. I wish I could learn to constantly focus on the wonderful things that God has done for me, instead of my problems. Thank you for that reminder.
