Happy Monday. What is your assignment today?
As long as we are still in this life, we are in God’s school, ever learning.
Could this be a time of “smooth sailing” and life is good? Wonderful! You can coast along, get lazy maybe.
Or, this may be graduate school time. Testing is here and can’t be avoided.
We might try to postpone it or get out of it.
That reminds me of one of my husband’s sermons (a favorite of mine) titled, “May I Change Seats Please?”
The short version is that Dr. Hyles was seated in an uncomfortable situation on a long airplane flight. He summoned the flight 
attendant to ask for a change of seats.
She could not, would not, because the plane was full.
She instructed him to stay in his seat and make the best of it. By the way, this sermon makes you laugh and learn
Is your question today, “May I change seats, Lord?”
There may be discomfort, fear, weakness, uncertainty, pain, and you want out.
But God, Who is our wise Teacher, says, “Stay where you are. The only way out is THROUGH. I see your situation from a different perspective.”
When these testing times come, as with Paul, we see how weak we are and we turn back to the One Who said in Isaiah 43:2:
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee: and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned…”
We may not always be as comfortable as we might like, but it won’t keep us from our destination. We will make it…THROUGH.

Dear Mrs. Hyles, I am working currently in Vietnam and heard of your posts through a very complimentary message by Dr. Bob Gray. My family and I have admired you for many years. Your post was very encouraging and I personally enjoyed your mention of Brother Hyles’ sermon. We miss him very much and look forward to that day when we shall see him again. One of my favorite sermons. I have had bad health for the past 30 plus years and when I thought I could not stand it I would ask the Lord for another seat thinking I could side step my condition. I always found it got much worse and not any better. It took me many years to realize I was my own worst enemy when it came to my health. The Lord truly does know best when it come to my health. If I had only listened some of my valleys would not have been so dark. Thank you Mrs. Hyles for the reminder. Have a great day and love ya lots. Mrs. Lee Ann Gray

Dear Mrs. Hyles, Thanks so much for your post. I have heart problems (heart works at 32%). And sometimes I am limited. And I enjoyed the reminder you gave today. I read it to my 3 kids, Laura, (who is turning 17 yrs. old in Feb.), Chip (who is 15 yrs. old), and Heather ( who is 12yrs. old). My birthday is also in Feb., so I just wanted to wish you an Early Happy Birthday! God bless you. Pray for you everyday.

Thank you, again, for your Mondays! What an encouragement this one was to me. I often ask “why am iin THIS seat Lord?” I guess He put me here in this seat for His purpose! Have a wonderful week and I loved being a part of First Baptist for a short while in the late 70’s.. I was the substitute for Mrs. Max Helton in the choir and admired you so much. You still amaze me.

My husband and I love this sermon! He retold this illustration in a sermon recently and spoke of Dr. Hyles and how he relayed this story so effectively…this is such a GREAT truth! We are so thankful to still have those words echoing through our minds:) Thank you! Miss you so very much!

Hallelujah! Just what I needed today. Things can really look like a jumbled up mess down here sometimes. So thankful that God holds the pattern in His hand and I can always turn to Him for anything! I love you!

This is also one of my favorite sermons. I have repreached it to myself through he years when something has come up that I didn’t want to go through.

Mrs. Hyles, you may not believe this, but just Friday I played a video on my phone of Dr. Hyles preaching “May I Change Seats Please”. I propped it up for my husband to focus on as you may or may not know that he has been in a coma since October 3rd. He appears to now be in what’s considered a minimally conscious state…and I wanted him to remember Bro. Hyles, as we loved Bro. Hyles so much. I chose that title for us that day believing it would be an encouragement to me, and to him if he could understand and comprehend. His eyes never left the phone.
It is of the Lord you mention the same this morning. Thank you for being an encouragement.
