April 7, 2014

Happy Monday. Here we are, four months into 2014.

Surprisingly, I have been writing these “ramblings” since last April. Time really  does fly.

Much thought, meditation, lots of words have gone into these blogs.

Why have I done them?

Basically, for myself.

When something seems to be speaking to me, I sort it out by writing. If it seems to help me, I feel someone else might need it.

As of now, I am overwhelmed at the changes in our world, especially as far as technology is concerned.

I tend to think, “Is life passing me by? Do I no longer have heights I can climb?”

Not unless I take on the “ho-hum” attitude, and give up and say,

“Come weal or come woe,
My status is quo.”

Is there ever any time to let that attitude be ours?medium_3143919125

Someone has said, “We can compare ourselves to a rubber band. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, but only one purpose–to stretch.”

When we stop reaching for a goal, a purpose, I believe we start dying.

“But what about my limitations,” you might ask.

Helen Keller was once asked what could be worse than being blind.

She replied, “To have sight, but no vision.”

An outstanding question comes, “What about age, being a senior?”

Listen to these facts:

Moses was 80 years old when he led 3½ million people out of captivity.

Caleb was age 85 when he claimed his mountain.

At age 70, Colonel Sanders introduced the world to finger-licking food.

Casey Stengal became manager of the Yankees baseball team at 75.

Picasso was still painting at 88.

The mimeograph was invented by Thomas Edison at 85.

John Wesley was still traveling on horseback, preaching at age 88.

Whew! I’m tired. But also inspired!

I have no excuse. Do you?

  1. I have no excuse to quit and I won’t. I can’t believe it has been a year of Monday With Beverly! what a thrill to have you as the leader of our team. Keep writing down things that speak to you and then you speak to us. Given anymore thought to putting a years worth of Monday With Beverly in book form for the rest of us to have? Have a great day and love ya lots. Mrs. Lee Ann Gray

  7. My Dear Pastor’s Wife,
Thank you so much for the encouragement and challenge this morning! I am encouraged to press on and keep the prize in sight. Just a little while longer and the race will be done and we will all by home, but until then may we get our second wind to finish our race! Bro. Crowson

  8. Thank you, Mrs. Hyles. The other day I read about a man who passed at 104. He had just renewed his license a few weeks before and had still been skiing in his 80’s.
