Happy Monday. “For who hath despised the day of small things…” Zechariah 4:10
Haven’t we all felt “little,” that our lives are insignificant, at some time?
My daughter Becky sent me the following and it encouraged me. As aging creeps up, I feel I can’t make a difference as I once could.
Naval Admiral William McRaven, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, gave the commencement address recently at the University of Texas in Austen.
He specifically mentioned, “Make your bed.”
Continuing, he said that the instructors who teach Navy Seals regularly each morning inspect beds to see if they are made tightly, correctly.
A mundane task? To be sure, but there is wisdom in that routine.
If you make your bed, you have done a task early, which encourages you to do more.
At the end of the day, that one task will have turned into many. It reinforces the fact that little things do matter.
And if, by chance, you have a miserable day, you return to a bed you made well, and that bed encourages you that tomorrow will be better.
“Do you want to change the world?” he asked. “Start by making your bed.”

Thank you for this, Our son Josh went to Heaven in a boating accident May 24, 14. God has been so good to us, but reading this just made me be able to take one more step each day:) We thank the Lord for family, friends and church members they are helping us daily!

Isn’t God so wonderful to put things on your heart that will encourage us many miles away. I admire the fact that you still want to do things to influence others for Christ. You always are a blessing to me and obviously many others. I have my fine bone china teacup sitting here that you drank out of many years ago at a Ladies meeting. It is very pretty and feminine with soft pink little roses on it from England. I have special guests that are allowed to use it and many others like Marlene Evans, Mrs. John R. Rice, and my preachers’ wives also had tea, or horrors, coffee in it. 🙂 Just a little reminder of class and Southern hospitality up here in the Northland. Love you bunches!!! Barb I Thess. 5:18

Thank you for another Monday with Beverly to encourage me. Several years ago when our children were all still at home we went to visit my mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Gray in Roe, Arkansas. As we walked in the door my daughter looked into her grandmothers bedroom and said to me, “What is wrong with grandma? Her bed is always made.” That was a true statement, know matter when or what day your went to her house her bed was always made. She taught me to always care daily for the little things.
