Happy Monday. How’s your anchor?
So many today feel their lives are shaking, unstable, with so much bad news in the media and in their own personal lives.
Discouragement can begin to overwhelm to the point of despair, loss of hope, which according to the writer of Hebrews is the anchor of our soul.
Where can we find hope?
As I strolled through the cosmetic section of my favorite department store, I was “taken aback” by a moisture cream called, “Hope in a Jar.”
All kinds of claims are given why this product will turn back the clock. I’m not questioning that–I haven’t tried it.
But hope–in a jar?
What is hope?
The dictionary says it is a “desire for something along with confidence and belief that it will happen.” Wishful thinking? Maybe.
According to theologian G.K. Chesterton, “hope is a platitude until everything seems hopeless and then, like other Christian virtues, it is unreasonable but indispensable.”
It is known that we can live a certain number of days without food, even fewer without water. But it is said that we cannot survive without hope.
Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12
Someone else has said, “Hope is nothing else but constant faith.”
Faith. In what?
Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.”
When hope fades and our anchor isn’t sure, we have a book of promises by our God who cannot lie!
Filling our minds with these truths makes us “abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
The story is told of a blind woman who described her world as being bright. She said it had the color of hope.
Joy–at living one more day.
Adventure–who would she meet.
Determination–to live her best that day.
A colorful world indeed!

I could almost hear your laugh when you read the name on that moisture cream, “Hope in a Jar.”
I love the verse of the old hymn “The Solid Rock,”
“When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace,
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the vale.”

I love the “Hope is like the sun….” quote! I also love the lady who still gives me a “shot” of HOPE every Monday! Ty :} Marlin and I just celebrated our 35th anniversary! I am so thankful for all the help and wisdom you have shared, and keep on sharing, for all these years! Love you :}

Of all the things that I might lose in my life hope is the one thing I will never let go of in any way, shape or form. I have so many health problems, having had numerous surgeries and health problems that come with growing old, that I dare not even entertain the idea of leaving hope behind each and every day of my life. How many times I have thought of that scripture, “an anchor for our soul both sure and steadfast”,
where would we be in this world, now? that is sure and steadfast? Think of you and love the
