Happy Monday. Happy November.

This is one of my favorite months, one in which we take a little extra thought of our blessings and are thankful.

One of the things that each of us needs and when received we are so grateful for is ENCOURAGEMENT. It’s like a soft rain on parched ground.

I had such a gift come to me a few days ago by mail.medium_15454036641

A large envelope came from my friend, Reese Fowler, a pastor’s wife in Ohio.

She had hosted a ladies’ meeting with around two hundred in attendance.

At one point during their time together, she passed out note cards to the pastors’ wives and gave them an opportunity to write me a note.

Since I have been away from speaking at ladies’ meetings for several years, it was lovely to be remembered by a dozen friends. I was reminded of their sweet lives and I was encouraged.

The theme of their meeting was “Upgrade Your Life.” And their kind words indeed upgraded my life and theirs!

As is quoted in the book, Try Giving Yourself Away, “He who praises (encourages) another enriches himself far more than the one being praised. It’s an investment in happiness…The poorest human being can give something that money could not buy.”

So many sad, dull faces we see could be brightened if we would get out of ourselves and seek to encourage.

“But what about me?” you ask.

The unchanging truth is, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over…For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Who comes to your mind whose world might be in chaos, perhaps feeling that no one notices?

Could you be that gentle rain on a parched life…today!

  1. Thank you for the reminder about encouraging others. You are right it costs nothing to write a note or make a phone call or give away a hug or a smile. Glad to hear the notes you received were such a blessing to you. With Thanksgiving being this month we should count our blessings and give some of them away to others. I have every note and letter your ever sent to me. I keep them in a special box. When I get down or discouraged I take them out and read them and am thankful for your encouragement. God bless, love you and have a wonderful day. Mrs. Lee Ann Gray

  2. You are always an encouragement to me. This helped me today to think that a smile or a note can mean more to someone than we realize. I have a note you wrote me a while ago and I still carry it in my purse! I love you. Barb
