Happy Monday.

And thank you!

Writing down my thoughts for these many months has been “cathartic” for me. Also, I have  had a deep desire to touch just one person who might need what I need that day.

You have commented and I consider it a “handful on purpose” that encourages me. Also, I take it as an opportunity to lift you up in prayer that day. I realize we are all needy people in some area of life.

I am reminded of Isaiah 41, which in my Scofield Bible is headed, “The greatness of God and the weakness of man.”

How descriptive of us and our need for God and each other every day.

Verse 6 says, “They helped every one his neighbor, and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.”

Continuing in verse 7, “So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with his hammer him that smote the anvil…”

Each man encouraged the next one and so completed a good, strong work.

Another teaching I think of is in Exodus 17. There was a battle between Amalek and Israel. As long as Moses held his hands up to Heaven, Israel prevailed.

But Moses grew weary!

However, when Aaron and Hur, one on each side of Moses, took it upon themselves to hold his hands up all day, the battle was won for Israel.medium_7157819605a

We also grow tired. Can we hold up one another’s hands as we learn the needs? A battle might be won that day.

It is so easy to be consumed with our own needs and find it difficult to get outside our world–and relationships can suffer.

The following is so picturesque of our day, first published in 1947:

“This is the age
Of the half-read page
And the quick hash
And the mad dash.
The bright night
With the news tight.
The plane hop
With the brief stop.
The lamp tan
In a short span.
The big shot
In a tight spot.
And the brain strain
And the heart pain.
And the cat naps
‘Til the spring snaps–
And the fun’s done!”
–Virginia Brusier

As we care for each other, could we ease the “brain strain” and the “heart pain” and help prevent the “spring snap”?

We do need each other. God said it in Genesis 2:18, “It is not good that man should be alone…”

  1. Your blog has definitely been an encouragement to me week to week. I like to think that you pray for me when you read my comment; that is a comfort! This week my Dad has passed away. We are preparing for the funeral and visiting family to arrive. My Mom has been ill just at the worst time, and we are anxiously petitioning God for his healing and strength for her. So I ask that you pray again for us this week especially. Many thanks for your weekly sharing of jewels of wisdom. You are precious. To have a connection with you again has been wonderful to me!

  3. Mrs. Hyles thank you again for another great blog to get my Monday started. The first five words of the last line of your blog, “WE DO NEED EACH OTHER.” and I say of course we do, we are the family of God! An earthly family no matter how small or large will quickly rally to the needs of its members. We as members of God’s family must learn to rally to the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ. The needs might be prayer, a note of encouragement, a phone call, a bag of grocery, some babysitting, cleaning the house for a friend and etc. Some ideas of what the family of God can do for each other and I ask you please to take no shortcuts. All these reminders are for me as well as for those who might read my comments. Thank you again Mrs. Hyles for your words. Take care, God bless and love ya lots. Mrs. Lee Ann Gray

  4. Your blog is the first thing I read on my phone on Mon am. It is so good to have a touch with you. Believe it or not I still have my box purses.!!! I can’t look at one without thinking of you. The last one I received was given to me by my husband when I turned 60– it is animal print! You taught me so much just by the way you walked into church, how you looked and how you treated people. I see from your pictures that you haven’t changed much. You will remain a Timeless beauty. I sure do love you and think of you almost daily. I have pictures of you and Bro Hyles up in my living room plus the painting of the sparrow you painted for me. Much love, Carol Tudor

  7. Dear Mrs Hyles,

You don’t know me, but I feel as if I have known you for many years. I first found you when my dear Pastor, Manley E Lane, came back from Pastor’s school years ago. He brought us the teaching of your late, grate, husband, Dr Jack Hyles. From there we were gently introduced to you by teachings, books, and other materials from First Baptist. Eventually our ladies would venture from Bath, Me to Indiana, to see and hear you. I was a very young christian at that time, only in my early twenties.

Now I am 50 yrs old, and praising God for this blog, which I can read via email. I am married with two children, Jack (yes, your sweetheart is his namesake) 13, and Charity, age 9. I am a “50-something” Mom! Can you imagine? I have been married to Donald Christian Rogers for going on 15 yrs. It has been the best 15 yrs of my life! Not without testing and trials, mind you, but God has been so good.

I ask you to please pray for my dear mother, Mary. She is not yet saved, and at the age of 75, has heard the gospel various times both at our church and elsewhere. I am so burdened for her soul. I know that the Lord is not willing that she should perish. This lady is a tough nut to crack! She seems determined to reject the precious truth of salvation. She once told me, “Linda, if I am on my death bed, I DO NOT want to hear the gospel!” At that time, my heart sunk in despair. Now, as a more mature lady, I rejoice, thinking that at least she was considering that she will, one day, face death.

I also have a sweet sister who is not saved yet. Her name is Jennifer. She is precious to me, and we were very close growing up. She has a head full of secular education, and knows a bit about every religion there is. She has also heard the gospel on numerous occasions. I have witnessed to her, and she knows where we stand. Recently I spoke the truth about the devil, and she said, “Oh Lin, that is just SILLY.” I have been praying for her soul since the age of 19. I know the Lord has not given up on her! Will you couple w/me, please, in prayer? I would be ever so grateful!

I love you, Mrs Hyles! Am so in awe of how God is using you, and continues to use you, day-by-day. We also follow your son Dave, on Facebook, and are ever challenged by his posts. He is an amazing offshoot of you and Dr Hyles. We keep Cindy in prayer, and hear she is doing well. And her daughter is a friend of mine on FB, as well as Candace Schaap. You all are such a blessing to my heart! I love to hear good reports from each source. The Lord has been so good to us all, has he not?

Well, I must go for now. But I will try to write again another day. In the meantime, know that you are loved, and used in so many ways, of our Lord Jesus. And by the way, I know what you mean by your blog being therapeutic for you! I find writing to have the same effect in my own life. I feel better having done it, in whatever capacity.

Take care dear lady, and know that there are those who need you.
